The NSFAS wallet is how NSFAS disburses your living allowances directly to you.

How it works:

  1. Once approved, NSFAS activates a digital wallet linked to your ID number.
  2. You access the wallet via the myNSFAS app or the NSFAS website.
  3. Allowances (accommodation, transport, book, food) are loaded into the wallet monthly.
  4. You can spend the funds at approved merchants or withdraw cash from ATMs/retail stores (depending on the wallet provider).

Important points:

  • Your tuition and registration fees are paid directly to the university by NSFAS — you do not receive that money in your wallet.
  • Only living allowances come to your wallet.
  • Keep your contact details updated on the NSFAS portal so you receive wallet activation notifications.
  • If you have not received your wallet, contact NSFAS directly at 0800 067 327 (toll-free).

Make sure your university has confirmed your registration and submitted your details to NSFAS before expecting disbursements.
