I got my matric results but my APS is too low for the programme I want. Is it possible to rewrite and improve my marks?

Yes, you can rewrite your matric to improve your marks. There are two main routes:

1. NSC Supplementary Exams (February/March)

  • Available to candidates who failed one or two subjects.
  • Offered by the Department of Basic Education.
  • Results released around April.

2. NSC Part-time / School Rewrite (June or November)

  • You can rewrite specific subjects through your provincial Department of Education.
  • You register at a public school as a part-time candidate.
  • November exams are the main session.

3. Private colleges (e.g. Impak, Damelin, Matric College)

  • Offer matric rewrite or upgrade programmes.
  • Can be done full-time or through distance learning.

Tips:

  • Contact your provincial Department of Education for exact registration dates.
  • You keep your best result — a rewrite will not make your marks lower.
  • A good rewrite can significantly increase your APS and open new doors.
